Hyundai Motor Group will establish its own high-speed charging stations under the brand name of "E-pit" for its electric models for its electric vehicle customers.
The E-pit charging stations can charge 80 percent of EV battery capacity within 18 minutes on a single charge,
The group will initially establish 20 E-pit high-speed charging stations this year.
Hyundai Motor Co. and its affiliate Kia Corp. plan to strengthen their EV lineup to earn a bigger share in the rapidly growing EV market.
Among the electric models that Hyundai recently unveiled was the IONIQ5, which is embedded with an EV-only electric-global modular platform (E-GMP).
Hyundai also plans to introduce the IONIQ 6 midsize sedan in 2022 and the IONIQ 7 large SUV in 2024.
Meanwhile, Kia will come up with its EV6, likewise built on the E-GMP platform, later this month. The EV6 is the first of Kia's seven pure electric models to be launched by 2026.
Hyundai and Kia are collectively the world's fifth-biggest carmakers by sales.
