Italian consumer sentiment and business confidence indices ease in June

Italian consumer confidence eased in the month of June. The consumer sentiment index dropped from 111.6 in May to 109.6. All the components of consumer confidence index deteriorated. The economic component dropped to 120.9, while the personal and current components dropped to 105.6 and 107.6, respectively. The future component index dropped to 112.3 from 115.6.

Meanwhile, the business confidence climate index dropped to 99.3 from 100.2. The confidence index in manufacturing dropped to 100.8 from 101.9. Assessments on order books and expectations on production deteriorated. As regards to the assessments on inventories, the related balance moved to 4.1 from 3.6.

The construction sector’s confidence index dropped to 140.9 in June from 144.3 in May. Both its components deteriorated, with the assessments on order books seeing a fall to -15.9 and the employment expectations dropping to 2.

The market services confidence index softened to 98.9. Both assessments on order books and the ones on business trend deteriorated, while the expectations on order books rose in the month.

The retail trade sentiment index rose to 104.7 from 102.7. Both assessments on current sales and expectations on the future ones rose. The assessments on volume of stocks, the related balance passed to 9.3. Especially, the sentiment index rebounded in the small and medium scale distribution.
