President Donald Trump’s daughter and his senior political adviser, Ivanka Trump defended the POTUS when a CNN panel mocked his supporters and mimicked their accents. However, someone was quick to point out that the President did just that.
Ivanka Trump condemned the CNN panel on social media for its mockery of Trump supporters. “You consistently make fun of half the country and then complain that it is divided,” she posted on Twitter, according to Newsweek. “The arrogance, mocking accents and smug ridicule of this nation's 'Real Elites' is disgusting.”
Many agreed with Ivanka’s comments. However, there were also a few who quickly pointed out that her father, President Donald Trump, has mocked others for the accents as well.
“Mocking accents? Your father mocked the accent of the Indian prime minister,” The Intercept columnist Mehdi Hasa commented on Twitter. To support his claim he also attached a link to a 2018 Business Insider article the reported Trump “often imitates” Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India.
Apparently, it’s not just the Indian Prime Minister that Trump had mocked for his accent. “Here he is on tape mocking Chinese and Japanese accents and mannerisms at a rally,” Hasan added. He then posted a link to a video clip showing Trump mocking Japanese and Chinese negotiators. The footage was taken in August 2015 at a Dubuque, Iowa rally.
“When these people walk in the room, they don't say, 'Oh hello, how's the weather? So beautiful outside, isn't it lovely? How are the Yankees doing? Oh, they're doing wonderful, great',” Trump said in the clip. “They say, 'We want deal!’”
Hasan also said that Trump faced backlash when he mocked former Attorney General Jeff Session for his Southern accent in his speech during last year’s Conservative Political Action Conference.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump wasn’t exactly happy when CNN anchor Don Lemon laughed when the show’s guests mocked Trump supporters. “Don Lemon, the dumbest man on television (with terrible ratings!),” the POTUS tweeted, Business Insider reported.
“Now is probably a good time to remind people that @CNN anchor @DonLemon is currently being sued in court for alleged sexual assault,” later posted in another tweet. “I guess CNN doesn't "believe all victims" when the person being credibly accused is one of their leftwing anchors.”
