When it comes to electric vehicles, be it the sports car variety to SUVs, Tesla is right at the top of the list of companies that people know. However, many manufacturers have been trying to change that, with Jaguar being one of the most recent to attempt to do so. Apparently, the company’s I-Pace electric SUV is going to be cheaper than the Tesla Model X and by quite a huge number.
As Ars Technica notes, Jaguar’s newly unveiled SUV is just the first of a new generation of electric vehicles from traditional manufacturers that will be coming straight for Tesla. The I-Pace is an SUV that comes with specifications that could rival the Model X. Even more important, the Jaguar vehicle is $10,000 cheaper than the Model X.
The EV costs $69,500 for its base price, which is not actually all that affordable. However, the difference in price with what Tesla currently has in the market right now could convince some potential customers that it’s enough to consider the I-Pace over the Model X.
As far as the specifications go, the vehicle still looks identical to the concept model that made the rounds all the way back in 2016. It has more interior space than the F-Pace thanks to the absence of an engine. The SUV comes with twin motors, both of which produce a combined output of 295kW of power, which translates to about 395hp. It also has a potential range of 240 miles.
Now, it’s worth noting that choosing Tesla still comes with a significant number of benefits. There’s a bigger seating setup, an upgrade could extend the range to teach 295 miles, and there are the Tesla Superchargers to consider.
On the other hand, Jaguar is intent on spending $1.5 billion in building facilities and developing EV technology, Fortune reports. The company has no intention of getting left behind in the general direction that the industry is headed.
