“Fifty Shades” lead actor Jamie Dornan recently attended a charity event in support of cancer patients. While at the occasion, the actor faced the media and opened up about how the death of her mother, Lorna, due to cancer still has an effect on him decades later.
Dornan graced the launching of the NIPanC charity on Wednesday held at the Mater Hospital in Belfast, Northern Ireland. While at the event, Dornan spoke with the Press Association where he tackled what he had gone through after losing her mom at the age of 16.
“I was a wee bit behind compared to my mates growing up, but I had to grow up pretty fast after that,” Jamie Dornan said (via Belfast Telegraph). “It has an ever-evolving effect on me, that loss, and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. … I feel like every single day it has an effect on me in ways which I am aware of and some ways I think I am not aware of.”
During the interview, Dornan also shared that her mother got diagnosed with pancreatic cancer while he was 14 years old. Looking back now that he is 36, the actor recognized that he is “not alone” in experiencing that kind of loss at a young age.
Considering Dornan’s experience in losing someone to cancer, it is not surprising how invested he is in helping establish the charity. The actor was joined in the said event by his father, James, and sister, Jessica.
“It would have been fantastic to speak to other people going through the same sort of awful situation that we found ourselves in,” Jamie Dornan added. “I feel privileged to play some part in drawing attention to this illness.”
Jamie Dornan has been an actor since the 2000s. He joined the fantasy drama “Once Upon a Time” for seven episodes, from 2011 to 2013. However, it is safe to say that his acting career really took off after playing the role of Christian Grey in the “Fifty Shades” movie series alongside onscreen partner Dakota Johnson.
The final installment to the movie series, “Fifty Shades Freed,” premiered in February. Dornan and Johnson are unlikely going to have another project together anytime soon. As for the latest news about Johnson, the actress is frequently spotted with rumored boyfriend, musician Chris Martin.
