Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson have been busy with their seperate professional careers since the end of their “50 Shades” trilogy. Dornan of Christian Grey fame just had the official trailer come out for his latest action movie, "Robin Hood."
Jamie Dornan will be playing Will Scarlet, the half-brother of the titular Robin Hood, played by Taron Egerton of “Kingsman” fame. Jamie Foxx taking on the role of "Little John" seems to be taking on a more mentor-like role to Robin Hood, potentially a shoutout to Morgan Freeman's Azeem back in the Kevin Costner version of the story, “Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.”
Ben Mendelsohn is set to play the villainous Sheriff of Nottingham and looks to be the film's big bad, with a Prince John casting nowhere in sight.
The movie, a retelling of the classic "rob-from-the-rich-to-feed-the-poor" bandito story, seems to be taking notes from recent action films such as Keanu Reeves's “John Wick,” with shots showing Egerton taking out two guards with his bow and arrow while somersaulting through the air.
For Jamie Dornan fans, it seems Dornan's Will Scarlet, aside from being the protagonist's half-brother, will also be the husband of Robin Hood's traditional love interest, Maid Marian, to be played by Eve Hewson. "Robin Hood" is scheduled for release on Nov. 21.
In an interview with host Lorraine Kelly, as reported by Entertainment Weekly, Jamie Dornan expressed exhaustion from the “50 Shades” franchise and looks forward to moving on to other roles.
In other news, Dornan's old partner onscreen, Dakota Johnson, has her own projects in tow.
“Suspiria,” a supernatural horror film flavored with ballet aesthetics, stars Dakota Johnson along with Tilda Swinton, Chloe Grace Moretz, Mia Goth, and Jessica Harper. Not many details have been revealed yet for the upcoming horror flick beyond last month's teaser trailer.
“Suspiria” is scheduled for release a few weeks before Dornan's “Robin Hood,” coming out on Nov. 2, as tweeted by the movie's official Twitter account.
