Gina Rodriguez, the actress who plays Jane, once again sat in the director’s chair to lead the production of “Jane the Virgin” season 5’s premiere episode. The first installment is expected to explain how and why Michael (Brett Dier) returned.
Rodriguez’s directorial debut happened for the show’s 10th episode in season 4 or Chapter Seventy-Four. “I found myself enjoying directing and acting [simultaneously] so much because I feel so instinctual with Jane and because as a director you’re given direct access to [showrunner Jennie Urman’s] brain,” Rodriguez told Variety. Her directorial job in “Jane the Virgin” season 5 would be extra special as she helms a crucial episode that would set the tone of the entire final season.
Fans were shocked to see Michael alive and well by the end of the fourth season. Though this is, generally, a piece of good news it also complicates Jane’s life and those around her. She has moved on and is looking forward to a new happily-ever-after ending with Rafael (Justin Baldoni). But Michael’s return might change all that in “Jane the Virgin” season 5.
Aside from the show circling back to its famous love triangle running storyline, there is also the mystery of what happened to Michael all the years they thought he died. There are several possible explanations such as Rose’s (Bridget Regan) involvement. Whatever happened to Michael, “Jane the Virgin” season 5 will not take long before answering the dangling questions.
“Who knows? That is also going to be answered in the beginning of [‘Jane the Virgin’ season 5],” Urman told TVLine about a possible “fake Michael” arc. “Rose has amazing face-swapping capabilities, as we’ve established. That’s certainly going to be one of the questions that needs to be asked and answered, especially when we continue to play out that scene.”
Yes I will be!! And PS. For those curious. I saw the first 3 episodes of season 5 of @CWJaneTheVirgin and they are unbelievable... literally was blown away. https://t.co/wjK3trvnbq

While the plot details are still under wraps, Dier previously assured fans that the first three episodes are going to be “unbelievable.” “Jane the Virgin” season 5 will premiere on Wednesday, March 27, at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.
