Jeep has launched the Wagoneer S, its first fully electric SUV. Meanwhile, GM plans to introduce the most affordable Chevy Bolt EV by 2025, aiming to dominate the budget electric vehicle (EV) market.
Thursday marked the unveiling of the Wagoneer S, the brand-new electric SUV that Jeep at last revealed after months of anticipation.
Jeep's Wagoneer S: A New Era of Electric SUVs
"The launch of the all-electric Jeep Wagoneer S marks a new chapter in the storied history of Jeep brand," stated Jeep CEO Antonio Filosa in the press release.
Electrek.co shares that the STLA Large platform supports Jeep's first EV and is also anticipated to support the forthcoming electric Dodge Charger. Conversely, Jeep designers and engineers modified the platform in every way for the Wagoneer S, including the length, breadth, suspension, and powertrain configurations.
Stellantis-designed electric drive modules provide instant torque to the front and rear axles.
Performance and Range of Jeep Wagoneer S
The electric SUV possesses 617 lb-ft of torque and 600 horsepower, enabling it to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds. It is also anticipated to have a range of at least 300 miles. The Wagoneer S, powered by a 100 kWh, 400V battery pack, can be charged from 20% to 80% in 23 minutes using a DC rapid charger.
According to Filosa, the Wagoneer S is "depictively a Jeep and entirely electric in every way." The Wagoneer S Launch Edition, Jeep's first EV sold worldwide, offers "exhilarating performance."
Standard 4WD is intended for a wide range of road conditions. Jeep equipped its signature Selec-Terrain with Auto, Sport, Eco, Snow, and Sand modes for enhanced traction in all weather and road conditions.
Jeep's first EV, "forged from premium heritage, innovation, and refinement," is poised to take the robust SUV manufacturer in a new direction.
While distinct Jeep characteristics remain, the Wagoneer S reimagines the brand for the electric age.
Earlier this week, Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares confirmed that a $25,000 all-electric Jeep will be introduced in the United States "very soon." However, they're not the only ones targeting the low-cost EV arena in the U.S.
Chevy Bolt EV: GM's Most Affordable Electric Vehicle by 2025
GM's new North American president stated that the next-generation Chevy Bolt EV will be "the most affordable vehicle on the market by 2025."
GM CEO Mary Barra verified the development of a next-generation Bolt EV utilizing its Ultium platform in response to positive feedback. Barra also stated that the new Bolt will be the first Ultium model produced by the company to use LFP batteries, which will aid in maintaining low prices.
GM's North American president since January, Marissa West, stated in a recent interview with Automotive News that the company is "really excited" to reintroduce the Bolt to the market.
When it debuts in the United States next year, the Ultium-powered Chevrolet Bolt is anticipated to be the most affordable EV, per West.
West elaborated, "We are ecstatic to receive the Bolt with the Ultium architecture foundation so that by 2025 it will be the most affordable vehicle on the market."
Meanwhile, the new Chevrolet Equinox, Blazer, and Silverado EVs—all built on the Ultium platform—are just a few of GM's latest electric cars.
