Kate Middleton and Prince William sparked rumors that they are facing some issues in their marriage following the Duchess of Cambridge’s recent visit to a hospital.
Earlier this week, the mom of three joined a creative workshop organized by the National Portrait Gallery’s Hospital Program at the Evelina London Children’s Hospital. While there, eagle-eyed royal fans noticed that Middleton wasn’t wearing her engagement ring.
Prince William gifted his wife with the sapphire and diamond engagement ring 10 years ago when he asked for his hand in marriage. The lavish accessory previously belonged to Princess Diana.
According to People, Middleton didn’t wear her ring to the hospital simply because she was adhering to their policy of wearing minimal jewelry during visits. The Duchess of Cambridge is also required to wash her hands before touring certain parts of the hospital, and it is recommended that she removes her jewelry beforehand.
As such, it is much better for Prince William’s wife to just not wear her engagement ring throughout the engagement. However, this doesn’t mean that Prince William and Middleton’s marriage is on the rocks. The couple's marriage couldn't be much stronger especially now that the royal family is relying on them after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's bombshell exit.
Meanwhile, this isn’t the first time that Middleton was photographed without her engagement ring. Two years ago, the future queen visited the Great Ormond Street Hospital and she didn’t also wear her ring because of the facility’s no jewelry policy.
Rumors swirled that Middleton didn’t wear her engagement ring at that time because it could no longer fit her. After all, she was six months pregnant with Prince Louis. However, shortly after leaving the hospital, the mom of three wore her ring once again.
In related news, Middleton’s husband has not been photographed wearing his wedding band either. According to BBC, the decision is down mainly to the royal’s preference.
Decades ago, male royals didn’t wear their wedding bands either. Rachel Church, a curator in metalwork at the Victoria and Albert Museum, said that it was only in the mid-20th century that the wearing of jewelry became mainstream.
