Since Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise got divorced over half a decade ago, the actress has had custody of their only daughter, Suri Cruise. But can she still lose that right at any moment? Leah Remini suggests so.
When Holmes filed for divorce from Cruise in 2012, it became one of the fastest celebrity split proceedings after it was finalized in just 11 days. As expected, the provisions of their settlement remained a mystery among fans.
Recently, Remini suggested in her LaPalme magazine’s fall 2018 issue interview that Holmes and Cruise's divorce definitely included some sort of “prohibitive documents." These have allegedly prevented Holmes from discussing how the Church of Scientology affected her marriage with Cruise. And if Holmes would ever break this agreement, Remini suggested the punishment could be brutal — such as losing custody of Suri.
The 48-year-old actress hailed people whom she interviewed for her show "Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath" as “champions.” But she also posed the question of why other personalities like Katie Holmes would not publicly speak about their own experience of being married to Tom Cruise, a known dedicated member of the religion.
“I keep wondering - why haven't Katie Holmes or Nicole Kidman spoken out," Remini told LaPalme (via E!). I assume they were forced to sign prohibitive documents."
"Trust me, Katie's not allowed to have a meal with me, and we used to be close friends,” Remini further claimed. “She could lose custody of Suri. It's quite sick, really." The “Kevin Can Wait” star was also a member of Tom’s church for 30 years.
Meanwhile, the Church of Scientology has issued a statement in response to Remini’s recent claims, which they described as “over-the-top rants aimed at getting attention.” The religious institution added, “Ms. Remini's ridiculous rants are unending, and the myths and tales she and her co-producer spread are growing more bizarre by the day.”
On the other hand, fans can expect neither Holmes nor Cruise to discuss whether such a divorce settlement clause exists involving their 12-year-old daughter, Suri Cruise. However, it is not the only rumored bizarre provision in their agreement.
There were also reports that Tom Cruise demanded that Katie Holmes not publicly date anyone within five years following their divorce. Reports speculate that this could be one of the reasons why Holmes and her boyfriend, Jamie Foxx, went to great lengths in keeping their relationship under the radar.
