There is no doubt that the Sandra Oh-led series is coming back for “Killing Eve” season 3. But considering how season 2 ended, Oh’s status in the episodes is quite questionable. Fans are surely hoping she is just playing dead when the show returns next year.
The season 2 finale of the spy thriller series offered one of the most twisted TV endings in 2019 so far. MI5 agent Eve (Oh) just killed someone to save the psychopathic assassin she was tasked to take down but eventually became an object of her obsession. It appears that Villanelle (Jodie Comer) did not actually need the help, but wanted Eve to do it so she could manipulate her into thinking they have become the same kind of person. Only that they are not and it ended up badly for Eve. Now, fans are left with a bigger cliffhanger as the wait for “Killing Eve” season 3 begins.
Villanelle was already making plans about living in hiding with Eve in Alaska. But when Eve disrupted her illusions, Villanelle did not hesitate to shoot her. Eve’s gunshot wound seems to be in a critical part of her body as she immediately loses a significant amount of blood. However, it is hard to picture “Killing Eve” season 3 without her.
It is safe to bet on Eve coming back in “Killing Eve” season 3, though the question is how. Villanelle likely realized that Eve would never be able to leave everything behind to become a remorseless killing machine like her. So the manner of how she shot Eve was likely intentionally fatal.
However, Entertainment Weekly suggests that Villanelle did not leave a dying Eve in the season 2 finale. But that Eve might have taken a move from Hugo’s (Edward Bluemel) playbook and played dead. Though it does not give a complete answer, it still provides a chance that Eve is definitely alive in “Killing Eve” season 3.
The thriller series is extremely popular that it is usually renewed for another season even before the current installment is over, which was the case for “Killing Eve” season 3. However, BBC America is likely to maintain a one-season-per-year schedule that means season 3 will not premiere until 2020.
