It was inevitable that the medieval fighting game/survival simulator by Warhorse Studios, Kingdom Come Deliverance would be compared to other games; i.e. Skyrim and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The developers clearly expected this and decided to have fun with it. Players who are fans of the now-legendary game by CD Projekt Red will absolutely love what they’ll find in the more realistic RPG.
One of the biggest selling points of Deliverance is the claim that it’s as grounded in real-life as possible. This includes more realistic combat, which follows historical European martial arts, as well as diseases or consequences related to that period. However, this doesn’t mean that there’s nothing tying it to more fantastical stories. As Gamerant notes, there’s a neat little nod to The Witcher 3 in the game.
This Easter egg can be found when visiting the Merhojed stables. In there is a horse with the name of Roach.
As any fans of the monster-slaying Geralt of Rivia might know, this is the name of all of the horses he has ever owned. Players who have played an unmarked side quest in the DLC Blood and Wine that involved a talking Roach might appreciate this little detail even more.
Adding to the nod that confirms its origins, the stable hand will also tell players that the horse was sold to him by an “odd Polish fellow,” Kotaku reports. He goes on to say that the transaction only occurred because the seller had settled down and the horse might have been frequently used in ways it was never meant to.
This is clearly a reference to how Geralt’s lover, Yennifer had a penchant for performing intimate activities on top of a stuffed unicorn. Although, with this being a more realistic game, it seems the horse was used for that purpose in the world of Deliverance.
“Them Poles are a persevere lot,” the stable hand would say.
