The Kioxia Group is installing an additional 3.9 MW of rooftop solar systems at its Yokkaichi factory to raise the total to 7.5 MW of PV systems that generate some 7,600 MWh of clean electricity per year at its manufacturing sites.
The Japanese manufacturer of NAND flash memory already has a 3.6-MW solar system in operation atop the Kitakami plant in Iwate prefecture.
The larger PV system at Yokkaichi will start generating power in June.
The PV systems would allow Kioxia to offset around 3,200 tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year.
Both solar systems will be operated and maintained under a power purchase agreement (PPA).
