LG Electronics introduced the LG Gram Fold (17X90R) in South Korea, marking a revolutionary shift in laptop design. This innovative device, releasing next week, combines adaptability and cutting-edge technology and is priced at KRW5 million.
As per Business Korea, LG Electronics’ new LG Gram Fold can also function as a tablet featuring a 17-inch screen when unfolded. In its folded form, users can use it as a 12-inch laptop.
The device uses OLED displays that are ultra-thin and bendable, plus it does not need a backlight. If the screen is fully opened, the thickest portion measures just 9.4 mm, less than 1 centimeter.
To make the user experience even better, LG Electronics also enhanced the device’s interface. The improvements will make LG Gram Fold suitable for use in any form - a laptop, a tablet, or even an e-reader. Its connectivity with peripherals was also upgraded so users can easily connect almost anything to the device.
The LG Gram Fold automatically functions as an e-book reader when the screen is folded in the middle. A touch pen could also be used to write or draw on the screen without a keyboard or mouse. If the screen is fully unfolded, it can offer a large screen where people can use a split screen to do two or more things simultaneously.
“The LG Gram Fold captures the technology and design innovation of the LG Gram, an ultra-lightweight and premium laptop brand of LG. The LG Gram brand celebrates its 10th anniversary this year,” LG Electronics stated.
Meanwhile, The Korea Economic Daily reported that with the introduction of its LG Gram Fold device, LG Electronics will now compete with Asus and Lenovo in the foldable laptop race. The South Korean firm will jump into the heat to lead the emerging market for foldable laptops that ASUSTek Computer Inc. and Lenovo Ltd are leading.
