Latest Commitment of Traders positions (Commodities) as of May 10th, 2016

CFTC commitment of traders report was released on Friday (13th May) and cover positions up to Tuesday (10th May). COT report is not a complete presenter of entire market positions, however it represents a good chunk of institutional traders, to have a feel of what expected by the big players.

Kindly note in some cases numbers are rounded to nearest decimal.

  • Gold – Net position long and decreasing

Gold net long position saw profit bookings, after last week’s big rise. Net long position decreased by 6,750 contracts to +264.9K contracts.

  • Copper – Net position short and increasing

Copper net short position saw sharp increase in short position. Net short position increased by 15,366 contracts to -22.8K contracts.

  • Silver – Net position long and increasing

After sizable reduction last week, net long position rose more than last week’s covering in this one, where longs were increased  by 4,396 contracts to +80.3K contracts.

  • WTI Crude – Net position long and increasing

Another sharp reduction in long position this week. Net longs got reduced by 26,584 contracts to +292 K contracts.               

  • Natural gas – Net position short and decreasing

Natural gas saw marginal net short covering of 6,903 contracts to -134.6K contracts.
