With multiple reports claiming that the Nintendo Switch Pro will be released later this year, many fans are also hoping to see “Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2” as the console’s launch title. However, another source has indicated recently that the much-awaited sequel might not arrive until 2022.
Nintendo provided the details for its next major Nintendo Direct showcase that will happen as part of E3 2021. The event is set for Tuesday, June 15, and confirmed to focus only on upcoming games. While the company did not drop specific hints as to what titles will be included in the 40-minute presentation, it is very likely that “Breath of the Wild 2” will be one of the highlights.
Meanwhile, well-known games industry analyst Dr. Serkan Toto shared the Nintendo Direct announcement and added: “Z2 22.” Fans replying to the online post believed Toto was referring to “Breath of the Wild 2,” with 22 meaning a 2022 launch.

It is worth noting that Nintendo’s official E3 page also confirms that not every game that will be presented at E3 will be released soon. Nintendo emphasized that the showcase will include games that are “mostly releasing in 2021.”
This is not the first time the “Breath of the Wild 2” launch was reported to be happening in 2022. Last month, leaker Zippo said the development of the sequel is “nearing completion” but added that it still “needs more time.” The tipster said it was one of the projects affected the most by the challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Nintendo did not make any promise about the “Breath of the Wild 2” release date. But many fans seem to be more in favor of the gaming launching this year, especially with Nintendo Switch Pro looking very likely to enter the market this holiday season.
Considering the previous launches, it does make sense for “Breath of the Wild 2” to be the official launch title of the Nintendo Switch Pro. But if the pandemic has really put a strain on its development’s timeline, fans might just have to be more patient. On the bright side, June 15 is less than two weeks away, and Nintendo might finally put an end to the speculations by announcing at least a release window for the sequel.
