Konami is now doing what many critics and fans of the Metal Gear series have predicted since creator Hideo Kojma left the company. It recently announced “Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Definitive Edition,” which contains the prequel called “Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes” and all the DLCs. It’s scheduled for release on October 11 and will cost $49.99 for the console version. The Steam price has not been announced.
This news did not surprise anyone who followed the developments in Konami since rumors about its spate with Kojima started until the two parties broke up. The company was always going to milk the dying legendary series, Forbes reports, and now it announced that it would.
Following its announcement of “Metal Gear Survive,” which was met with harsh reception from fans of the series, it seems Konami is trying to take the more mellow approach with the new bundle instead of shocking gamers with an inexplicable spin-off. With the “Definitive Edition,” players will finally be able to have both the “Ground Zeroes” and “Phantom Pain” titles in one package.
In the past, players would have to buy both titles separately, with “Ground Zeroes” costing $30 despite its relatively short playtime. Many saw the price as absurd and abstained from getting it on top of the main game.
Aside from lumping the two units together, the new bundle will also include expansions for the online multiplayer, the International Business Times reports. These include the various packs, from “Basic” to “Hero Appeal.” The added weapons and the “Cloaked In Silence expansion” will also be included.
It should be noted that Konami mentioned some differences with the PC version of the bundle without actually elaborating on what these are. The company will only reveal these distinctions at a later date, which could suggest that there are optimization issues afoot.
