Uber is not having a very good year, with controversy after controversy hounding the cab-hailing company like flies chasing a dying animal. The most recent trouble to befall the firm is Jeff Jones, the Uber President’s decision to step down after reports of disagreements up the ladder surfaced. Even worse for Uber is the scathing assessment that Jones had of the company.
By all accounts, Uber is in a very delicate situation right now with the company in disarray, Recode reports. Prior to Jones’ departure, there were reports that Uber was looking for a COO who might provide the President with some assistance in order to steer the wayward ship back to a stable course. Unfortunately, it would seem that this did not agree with Jones’ idea of how things were going to be when he signed up for the cab-hailing firm.
"We want to thank Jeff for his six months at the company and wish him all the best," Uber said in a statement confirming that Jones had indeed left the company.
Jones had a statement of his own, which he provided Recode. Although it didn’t go into specifics, it’s clear that Jones was not happy with the direction that he was being prodded towards in running the company.
“It is now clear, however, that the beliefs and approach to leadership that have guided my career are inconsistent with what I saw and experienced at Uber, and I can no longer continue as president of the ride sharing business,” the statement reads.
Adding to the speculation that the search for a new COO contributed to Jones’ decision to leave, there are also internal company emails that alluded to that end, Business Insider reports. The now former president of Uber was hired in August last year to address some of the most troubling aspects of the company, including operations and marketing; a demanding task that might have required a single leadership, not two.
