The fight between Manny Pacquiao and Keith Thurman is still in its negotiation phase, although confirmation for the bout will supposedly come out next week. If everything pans out, then it’s expected that the fight will take place on July 20.
At the moment, most – if not all – boxing pundits are favoring Keith Thurman to win on account of Manny Pacquiao’s age. The WBA super champ is a decade younger than the fighting senator with power and fight IQ on his side, Forbes reported.
Manny Pacquiao’s advantage, on the other hand, is experience and speed. At 40-years-old, the Filipino slugger is arguably faster than Keith Thurman if their recent bout is anything to go by.
Against Adrien Broner, Manny Pacquiao’s agility was in full display once more, although his power has only been highlighted for a few times. Meanwhile, Keith Thurman proved his resilience when he fought Josesito Lopez after he came dangerously close to being knocked down the canvas in the seventh round. Unfortunately for Lopez, Thurman was still standing after the barrage, which ultimately resulted in “One Time” winning the match via decision.
Manny Pacquiao and Keith Thurman will undoubtedly be a thrilling bout to watch as the two fighters have a penchant for aggressive exchanges – more so for the former. The problem for Thurman is that he seems to be poor at defending against body shots, a fact that the future Hall of Famer is sure to take advantage of.
Manny Pacquaio has built his career as a volume striker, often times unloading multiple shots before disengaging, only to come buzzing in once more. Keith Thurman can advantage of this by weathering Pac-Man’s shots and wait for an opening for a one punch KO. With Pacquiao no longer possessing the power he once had and Thurman being billed as one of the strongest punchers in the welterweight division, there’s a chance that this could end badly for the senator. Of course, all of this is banking on the possibility that both camps will come to an agreement. Hopefully, news about this fight will come out soon as fans of both fighters are eager to see what will occur should the pair step into the ring.
