Mazda Opens Pre-Orders for EZ-6 EV and EREV in China, Starting at Just Over $22,800
Mazda has launched pre-orders for its new Mazda EZ-6 EV and EREV models in China, with prices below $25,000. Mazda and China's state-owned Changan Auto co-developed the EZ-6, one of two new electric vehicles introduced in April. The EZ-6 was introduced concurrently with the Arata, a crossover that was CX-5-sized. However, the latter was closer to production and was expected to be released later this year.
Mazda has fulfilled its commitment by making the Mazda EZ-6 available for pre-order. While the precise pricing is unclear due to translation, the starting price appears to be approximately 160,000 yuan, or just over $22,800, as Chinese car blogs Autohome and CarNewsChina reported.
At this pre-sales launch, Mazda is offering the EZ-6 in four extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs), essentially hybrids, and three electric BEVs, a noteworthy development.
Mazda’s EZ-6 EV Offers Premium Features, Impressive Range, and Power at an Affordable Price
According to Electrek, the Mazda EZ-6 includes premium features, such as leather seating surfaces, in its standard model despite its relatively low price. Higher trims combine leather with suede, which is likely Alcantara. In addition to a panoramic glass canopy, the vehicle is equipped with a 14-speaker Sony audio system, 64-color ambient lighting, and "zero-gravity" front seats that can be reclined to a near-flat position.
The BEV model is entirely electric and is propelled by a single motor that produces 190 kW (approximately 254 hp). It has two battery options: a 56.1 kWh or a 68.8 kWh pack, which provides a CLTC range of 480 km or 600 km (approximately 370 miles). The maximum speed of both variants is electronically restricted to 170 km/h (105 mph).
The EREV version of the EZ-6 is powered by a 160 kW (215 hp) electric motor and a 93 hp 1.5L internal combustion engine generator, and it is fitted with a lithium iron phosphate battery. The utmost comprehensive range of 1301 km (approximately 808 miles) is quoted for the battery, which has a range of roughly 80 miles.
