McDonald's popular Grimace Shake, introduced last summer, remains absent from U.S. menus this year, causing widespread disappointment. The limited-time vanilla berry milkshake, which gained viral fame, has instead been launched in Canada, leaving American fans eagerly awaiting its return.
Grimace Shake's Return in Question as McDonald's Fans Await Announcement
The "birthday" of Grimace, commemorated on June 12, has passed, but his milkshake remains unseen.
According to The Commercial Appeal, McDonald's debuted the Grimace Shake for the character's birthday last year. Initially introduced in the summer of 2023, the vanilla berry milkshake garnered national recognition and became a summer trend due to numerous TikTok posts. It was available for a limited time, from June to August, and was a hit among customers. Despite its widespread popularity, the beverage has yet to be reintroduced in the United States this year.
Consequently, the question across social media platforms is, “When will my beloved Grimace Shake return?”
Is the Grimace Shake returning?
Unfortunately, the Grimace Shake will not grace the McDonald's menu in the United States this summer. The company briefly brought it back in May, but to the dismay of many, it was unavailable in the United States. Instead, our neighbors in Canada were given the sweet opportunity last month.
Who is Grimace?
Grimace is the enormous purple glob that enjoys spending time with clowns at Playland. Initially, the purple character was a milkshake thief. Still, he eventually became a good person and formed friendships with Ronald McDonald, Mayor McCheese, and the other good guys.
What is the Date of Grimace's Birthday?
Grimace commemorates his birthday on June 12. McDonald's introduced the renowned beverage on his birthday last year. Even though this year's birthday has passed, there has been no milkshake.
What's in the Grimace Shake?
The three key ingredients—vanilla ice cream, milk, and chilled berries—are the foundation of this delightful shake. When the beverage was temporarily removed from the menu, individuals took it upon themselves to create their unique versions at home. Some added strawberry marmalade and honey to their recipes, showcasing the endless possibilities of this beloved treat.
Grimace Shake Debuts in Canada: McDonald's Celebrates Character's Birthday with Limited-Time Offer
In the previous month's report, McDonald's officially introduced its Grimace Shake in Canada with a limited-time offer at participating restaurants.
The shake, introduced in the United States in mid-2023, is now accessible to Canadian consumers in honor of Grimace's birthday.
McDonald's provides Canadian customers with a variety of convenient ordering options, including in-restaurant, through the McDonald's mobile app, at the drive-through, or via McDelivery.
As Alyssa Buetikofer, McDonald's Canada's chief marketing officer, puts it, “When the Grimace Shake was introduced to our neighbours to the south, the response we received from our Canadian fans was truly overwhelming."
“Inspired by the sheer creativity and passion we saw for the Grimace Shake, we had to bring it to Canadian menus.”
In August 2023, McDonald's collaborated with Jazwares, the manufacturer of Squishmallows, to offer a novel, limited-time McFlurry at its Canadian locations.
