McDonald's Korea announces the return of the Prosperity Burger, and this time, it is back on the menu for charity. The fast-food chain will use the seasonal burgers to collect funds for the benefit of children with serious diseases and their family members who care for them.
According to The Korea Times, McDonald's Korea first introduced the Prosperity Burger in 2013 and it has since been part of the restaurant's seasonal menu. Every year, the company donates ₩100 per burger sold and the collected money is sent to the Ronald McDonald House Charity (RMHC) Korea.
The charity house is running accommodations especially built for families of hospitalized children. The families of patients who live far from the medical centers are given rooms to stay for the duration of the hospitalization.
For this year, to collect more funds, McDonald's Korea added two versions of the seasonal burger to the menu. The first one is the original Prosperity Burger Gold and the other one is the Prosperity Burger Gold Special which is served with hash browns.
The original Prosperity Burger Gold is priced at ₩4,600 for ala carte and ₩5,900 for a meal that comes with a drink and side. The Prosperity Burger Gold Special is ₩5,300 per order and the meal version includes a drink and hash browns for ₩6,600.
As posted on McDonald's Korea website, the Prosperity Burger Gold Special is a sandwich with chewy patty and rich garlic sauce while the Prosperity Burger Gold has the same ingredient but without the hash browns. The special burgers will only be available in stores across the country for a limited time. Customers can buy them until Jan. 26, 2022.
"The Prosperity Burger is McDonald's special menu item for our customers to wish for good luck in the upcoming year," an official at McDonald's Korea said. "At the same time, it provides a good opportunity for them to participate in a charity event. We hope our customers have a more meaningful year in 2022 and convey good luck to more families in need."
McDonald's Korea collected a total of ₩150 million or around $126.2 million last year after selling 1.5 million pieces of Prosperity Burgers in just three weeks.
