McDonald's is bringing back one of the diners' favorite menu items to its stores in Canada. The fast-food giant said this cool McFlurry flavor is returning once again, but it seems not everyone was pleased with the announcement.
According to Henry Herald, the McFlurry dessert was invented by McDonald's Canadian franchisee in 1995. It was introduced as a vanilla ice cream with candy or cookie crumbles, and it became a big hit and was released worldwide.
The Popularity of McFlurry at McDonald's Stores
Since its introduction, various flavors have been created in different locations. There were limited-edition variants that were made in collaboration with popular chocolate and cookie brands, and almost all of them became hits.
People enjoyed flavors such as the Red Velvet Cake and Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, and one of the most-loved McFlurry is the Confetti Cookie Dough flavor. Now, McDonald's is adding this to the menu again, but only in Canada.
Mashed reported that McDonald's Canada added the Confetti Cookie Dough McFlurry to its menu list again after a limited-time offering in May 2023. The dessert was described as vanilla ice cream "blended with confetti pieces and cookie dough."
Aside from this, stores in the region are also offering the Oreo McFlurry and ones with the Cadbury Creme Eggs. Variants made with Smarties candies and Skor bars are also available, and they appear to be Canadian exclusives because other countries do not offer them yet.
US Customers Are Jealous
While McDonald's locations in other regions have their versions of McFlurry flavors, customers in the United States are reportedly jealous of the Confetti Cookie Dough McFlurry release in Canada and demanding that the dessert flavor be on the US menu as well, as per the New York Post.
"This made me happy until I saw that they serve this only in Canada," the Post quoted one of the irked McDonald's fans as saying on the return of cookie dough McFlurry in just one region. "In the States, it's slim pickings with only Oreo or M&M McFlurry options available, whereas Canadians can also enjoy Smarties and SKOR bar flavors."
Another one commented that "Canada is getting all the fun ones" and "That's just cruel why do they do this to us."
