McDonald’s is test-marketing the McPlant in all of its about 240 restaurants in the Bay Area for a limited time to expand the number of restaurants offering the product to 600 restaurants nationwide.
The fast-food giant has also been testing the McPlant in overseas markets, including the UK, the Netherlands, Austria, Sweden, and Denmark.
The vegetarian patty was developed in partnership with Beyond Meat and is made from ingredients like peas, rice, and potatoes. It is cooked on the same grill as meat-based and egg products
The company said the McPlant, which comes with American cheese, tomato, lettuce, pickles, onions, mayonnaise, ketchup, and mustard on a sesame seed bun, was created to give customers more delicious options.
Customers may request that their McPlant sandwich be made without cheese and mayonnaise.
