For years, we have all looked to Kate Middleton for her fashion choices. Now it seems that the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, may be taking on the title of best dressed.
According to fashion search site Lyst, after analyzing the fashion searches of 104 shoppers, Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex is named the ‘Most Powerful Dresser’ of 2019. The title is given to those whose fashion choices are much talked about, most searched, as well as most inspired due to the increase in sales of the brands she wears. She effectively overtakes her sister-in-law, the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton in that aspect.
The new mom, as reported by The Sun, the “Meghan Markle Effect” remains to this day. The Duchess’ influence saw a dramatic increase in searches that skyrocketed to up to around 216 percent, due to shoppers wanting to look for similar styles to the royal’s outfits.
This was largely brought on by the outfits she was wearing during the Royal Tour of South Africa. The Duchess of Sussex wore five different shirt dresses during the tour. The Club Monaco dress she wore when she, Prince Harry, along with their baby Archie, met Archbishop Desmond Tutu, saw a 570 percent increase in searches, the exact dress, in particular, selling out after 24 hours.
Another example was the J.Crew skirt she wore, which brought a 102 percent increase in searches as well. The overall searches for the shirt dress category alone went up to 45 percent.
Other celebrities that were mentioned on Lyst’s “Most Powerful Dressers” were Billie Eilish, Zendaya, Cardi B, Timothee Chalamet, Kylie Jenner, Harry Styles, Lizzo, Billy Porter, and Lisa from K-Pop girl group Blackpink.
But much like her sister-in-law, Markle is also known for breaking some royal fashion rules. Fans of the royals have noticed the similarities in their wardrobes. As revealed by Express, the Queen isn’t too fond of platform shoes or wedges, and everyone in the family knows it.
During the couple’s visit to Cape Town, Markle was seen wearing black espadrille heels. However, given that she was thousands of miles away from Her Majesty, it might have been safe to wear such shoes. Still, it does not take away from her style icon status.
