The lucrative deal of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry could come to a crashing end soon, a royal expert warned. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been warned they could become “more expendable” to Netflix once “The Crown” Season 6 ends as they come under pressure to justify the huge amount of money being paid to them.
Meghan Markle, Prince Harry Netflix Deal
Most, if not all, fans are aware that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry signed a multi-year contract with Netflix worth $100 million after they quit their roles as senior working members of the Royal Family in 2020. However, so far, the royal couple only have one notable show together—their six-part documentary series released in December 2021.
Prince Harry's own documentary series, “Heart of Invictus,” rapidly dropped out of Netflix's top ten. He will apparently return to Africa to film another documentary, and the duo may even develop a cinematic adaptation of the love novel “Meet Me At The Lake.”
However, royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams warned that Netflix may now put enormous pressure on Harry and Meghan to produce a successful production. “There is the possibility Harry could release another book. Spare, with those interviews, has cut them off from the Royal Family, and it's perfectly obvious why. The whole thing was proven to be a very bad idea. Meghan could release her memoirs, or Harry could put together another book of the 400 pages cut from Spare,” he told Daily Express US.
"Meghan could release her memoirs, or Harry could put together another book of the 400 pages cut from Spare. There is that in the background but when the Crown has finished, Netflix might find them more expendable. It ends in December but there are question marks as they haven't given any real clues as to what they plan to do in the future. There is an argument about them being a one-trick pony - what can they really achieve that they haven't before? We are yet to see signs of that,” Richard continued.
"The Crown is hugely high profile and very important to Netflix but is soon ending. To have two royals under contract gave them a cachet, and the $ 100 million payment is pivotal to the Sussexes. However, they have so far not done anything of real success, bar the six-hour documentary Harry and Meghan, which many found hypocritical because they were obsessed with privacy, though they will reportedly be adapting the romantic novel Meet Me At The Lake. So, depending on what success they have, they could lose the contract,” the royal expert added.
Meghan Markle, Prince Harry Mocked Recently
Meanwhile, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were recently mocked during an episode of the popular cartoon satire, “Family Guy.” The parody came just eight months after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were embarrassingly taken apart during an episode of South Park.
However, there have been speculations that Meghan Markle is on the verge of a major new deal with Amazon audiobook service Audible. One insider even suggested that the deal should push through, which will lead to a huge payout, per Express UK.
The new project comes just months after Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's contract with music streaming service Spotify expired. However, a source close to the “Suits” alum said she is about to embark on an exciting new plan that will "make or break her Hollywood dream." They claim the contract includes a "huge payout" for Meghan and will place her alongside other American superstars in the realm of audiobook production.
