As the official unveiling event for the Meizu 16 and the Meizu 16 Plus draws near, more and more details about their specifications and features are being confirmed. Some of these features include an in-display fingerprint scanner and thinner front screen bezels.
Confirmed Meizu 16 Series Specs, Features
Based on the released announcement poster (via Gizmochina), it has been confirmed that the Meizu 16 series will be revealed in a dedicated event on Wednesday, Aug. 8. Interestingly, this schedule is just a day early than the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Note 9.
Will the Meizu 16 smartphones have what it takes to somehow get a fraction of the attention that the Galaxy Note 9 will get? That’s a possibility, thanks to its in-display fingerprint scanner. Currently, the Vivo X21 is the only device with the said feature. So one of the Meizu 16 models is looking to be the second-ever smartphone to sport the fingerprint scanner innovation.
Reports speculate, however, that only one of the Meizu 16 models will sport the in-display fingerprint scanner and the thinner bezels. Meizu CEO Jack Wong reportedly confirmed that the in-display fingerprint reader will be available on the Meizu 16 Plus. So by the looks of it, these features will be exclusive to the Meizu 16 Plus. But there is also a chance that the thinner top and bottom bezels will be a key feature of the entire smartphone series.

The same announcement poster confirmed that a Snapdragon 845 chipset will power the series. This is an expected upgrade to both the Meizu 16 and the Meizu 16 Plus models. The upcoming series will also feature house Meizu’s mBack on-screen halo button for various touch gestures.
A leaked screenshot of the Meizu 16 and the Meizu 16 Plus’s 3C certification is another indication that these devices are going to be released very soon. The 3C certification is a mandatory process for consumer products to pass before they can be sold in China.
Price and Other Features
The Meizu 16 series is rumored to offer 6GB and 8GB RAM variants. The company is also speculated to include an AI-powered Sony IMX380 camera on the upcoming smartphones as well as advanced stereo speakers.
Another head-turning aspect of the Meizu 16 series could be its pricing scheme. Reports suggest that the base Meizu 16 model with 6GB RAM + 64GB internal storage could be priced at only 2,399 yuan or around $350. The Meizu 16 Plus with 8GB RAM + 128GB internal storage is rumored to cost only 3,599 yuan or around $530.
