Mexican and U.S. officials have agreed to maintain an open dialogue on key economic issues, including regional supply chains and foreign investment traceability, according to Deputy Foreign Trade Minister Luis Rosendo Gutierrez.

During a White House meeting, both sides initiated discussions ahead of the 2026 review of the USMCA trade pact. While tariffs were not yet a focus, Gutierrez emphasized a commitment to ongoing information exchange, with talks set to continue next week.

President Donald Trump recently postponed a proposed 25% tariff on Mexico and Canada for a month in exchange for stricter immigration and drug enforcement measures. As part of the agreement, Mexico will deploy 10,000 National Guard troops to its border.

Gutierrez noted that he traveled to Washington at the request of Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum to engage with officials from the Trump administration.

This ongoing cooperation highlights efforts to strengthen North American trade relations, ensuring economic stability and competitiveness in the region.
