Michelle Obama might not have expressed plans of entering politics at the moment. But if Joe Biden had his way, he’d pick the former FLOTUS as his vice president in the upcoming presidential election.
This was revealed when Biden answered some questions from the audience at a campaign stop in Muscatine, Iowa, according to the New York Post. “I sure would like Michelle to be the Vice President." Democratic presidential contender said.
The publication noted that such pairing would be a first in American politics. Apparently, there has never been an instance in the nation’s history that a former First Lady gunned for a vice-presidential post.
In addition, Biden even included former President Barack Obama in his administration if elected. “Yeah, I would, but I don’t think he’d do it. He’d be a great Supreme Court justice,” Biden replied when someone asked if he’d consider appointing the former POTUS for Supreme Court.
Biden went on to praise the former First Couple for their undeniable qualifications. “They’re both incredibly qualified people and they’re such decent, honorable people,” Biden added.
However, some netizens were not too happy with Biden’s statements. For some, he was just using the Obama name to get ahead in the polls.
“Lol, he's using her name the same way he "floated" Abrams for VP,” Twitter user @Ph0en1xr1sing commented on The Hill’s post showing a brief clip of Biden’s Q&A. “He's shameless.”
Another user is of the same opinion saying that Obama’s endorsement would matter greatly for his candidacy. “@Biden knows the only chance he has left is a love letter to the Obamas,” @DeniseK_USA commented on The Hill’s tweet. “Joe meant ‘please endorse me’ lol,” another Twitter user, @PhuShore, wrote.
Some netizens objected for other reasons, however. For some, the idea of both Michelle and Barack Obama occupying high positions in the government is not acceptable.
“I’m pretty sure this is the definition of nepotism,” Twitter user @Sparatan_1 wrote.
However, it is yet unclear if the Obamas would agree to Biden’s proposal. Express reported that sources close to Michelle confirmed that the former FLOTUS “has no interest in running for public office.”
