Microsoft ‘Pix’ Improves Default Apple Camera App, No More Blurry Shots

Apple iPhones already have built-in apps that allow users to take pictures with their cameras. Aside from the default app, though, there are also others that offer different features using the camera such as the “Snapchat.” Now, Microsoft is joining the game with its app called “Pix,” which uses a combination of different programs to help make the pictures captured even better.

“Pix” uses artificial intelligence and computational technology to enhance the images taken by the iPhone camera, and video stabilization to improve the quality of videos taken, CNET explains. These features are already present in certain software products like Adobe Photoshop, but “Pix” offers them in a much simpler way that doesn’t require much effort from the users.

The app also features programs that improve other aspects of photos such as the colors and the focus. Basically, it removes human error from the equation.

This is yet another example of the new direction that Microsoft is going under the leadership of its new CEO, Satya Nadella. Instead of trying to carve a slice of the smartphone pie by offering smartphones of their own, Nadella wants to instead provide services to existing brands that have secured their places in the market, among others.

Before, Microsoft’s products are only provided to its own lineup of devices such as “Windows Phones.” Now, they are also offering them to “iOS” and “Android” devices.

As Tech Crunch explains, “Pix” works by taking batches of photos in one click. Once that’s done, the app will present the users with the image that the program has determined is the best out of all of them. If the user doesn’t like the choice given, it will then present another choice. A third option rarely ever occurs, thus leaving the users to take yet another photo.

“Pix” is available for download at the Apple App Store right now and users can do so for free.
