Microsoft Reportedly Reaching Out To Sony To Discuss Crossplay

Crossplay is a feature that Microsoft and other gaming companies have been leaning heavily into. It basically allows players of the same game to play with others on different platforms. So far, Sony is the only influential name in the business that is refusing to play nice. This is why Microsoft claims it is now trying to reach across the aisle to come to some sort of understanding with the PlayStation 4 maker.

One of the biggest reasons that Sony provided as to why it simply would not allow crossplay with other platforms is the matter of safety. This caused quite a bit of uproar among gamers who simply were not buying it. In a recent interview with GameReactor, Xbox marketing head Aaron Greenberg said that they were trying to remedy the situation.

“We're talking to Sony [about crossplay], we do partner with them on Minecraft and of course we would like to enable them to be part of that; one community, to unite gamers. So we're talking to them and we're hopeful that they'll be supportive of it," Greenberg said.

Sony has given no indication that this is the case and so far, there have been no additional details with regards to any talks between the two rival companies. What this development does make clear is that Microsoft is really trying to put the screws on Sony on this crossplay issue.

The Xbox maker has been throwing jabs at its nemesis on this subject for quite some time, fueling the anger that gamers feel for being deprived of what they believe is an essential feature, GameSpot notes. As it continues to hammer its competitor, Microsoft likely hopes that the animosity it breeds in the community will translate to more sales of its upcoming souped-up console, the Xbox One X.

Of course, anything can happen in the future. For now, gamers can simply wait for things to play out.
