‘Modern Family’ season 8’s episode 6, entitled “Grab It”, follows Alex as she explores the prospect of becoming a business woman. Claire gets jealous of Alex idolizing a book author and seeks Gloria’s advice. Meanwhile, Cam tricks Mitch into attending an interactive play with him.
The synopsis for episode 6 posted on International Business Times stated, “Jay's (Ed O’Neill) last refuge and favorite place in the world could be a lost cause when Phil (Ty Burrell) wants to be a member. Meanwhile, Claire (Julie Bowen) doesn't have as much influence on Alex's (Ariel Winter) life choices as she thinks, but Haley (Sarah Hyland) is obsessed with what Alex thinks about hers; and Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) winds up in the spotlight thanks to Cameron's (Eric Stonestreet) new play.”
According to the recap on Entertainment Weekly, Alex finally decides that she wants to pursue business as a career and registers for some business courses at a local community college before going back to Caltech. She is obsessed with a new author but is soon disappointed after realizing that her hero is a self-obsessed jerk when she went with the author and a few others for coffee. However, Alex is then inspired to become a barista for some real-world experience while they were at the coffees shop.
Meanwhile, Claire is jealous that the author has become Alex’s driving force even though she likens herself to the author when it comes to being a woman CEO who raises a family. She turns to Gloria for some advice as to how to deal with the situation, to which she is told that understanding one’s influence in a child’s life is more important than getting credit.
Meanwhile, Cam tricks Mitchell into attending a night of interactive theater with him. However, Mitch is unaware that he has to take part in it. Mitch is eventually picked to play the part of Vlad and is forced to kiss an actress, who is supposedly his character’s drunken ex-girlfriend.
Mitch then takes revenge on Cam by hijacking his partner’s role and spoiling the play’s ending, thereby wrecking the show.
