MONSON, Mass., Oct. 20, 2017 -- Nexamp, Inc., a leading provider of solar energy solutions, today announced the completion of its latest community shared solar array, a 2.6 megawatt (MW) project in Monson, Massachusetts. Monson Solar will generate approximately 3,397,200 kilowatt-hours of clean, renewable energy in its first year of operation, enough to power nearly 400 homes and offset over 2,500 metric tons of carbon dioxide generated from traditional energy sources.
Through Nexamp’s Solarize My Bill™ community solar program, residential, small business, and non-profit subscribers can support local renewable energy while benefiting from the cost savings on electricity generated by the project. The completion of Monson Solar follows Nexamp’s announcement of four community shared solar projects in Dudley, Massachusetts, and foreshadows a succession of similar milestones across the Commonwealth as Nexamp builds on its track record as a top solar developer and community solar provider nationwide.
Monson Solar was designed and installed atop leased farmland on Westview Farms, a sixth-generation farm, acquired by the Bradway family over a century ago. Named Monson Summerfest’s Business of the Year in 2017, the farm has evolved into a prominent Massachusetts dairy farm. With the addition of Nexamp’s community solar project on the property, the farm continues to invest in its community by providing sustainable, clean energy and cost savings to the local residents, small businesses and non-profits that are subscribed to the project.
“As Nexamp continues to grow, we’re most proud of our ability to expand energy options and savings to community members who are aligned with our mission to support local sources of reliable renewable power,” said Zaid Ashai, Chief Executive Officer of Nexamp. “Our success is made even more special when we’re able to partner with landowners like Westview Farms to support their local farm operations for years to come. This is community solar in the truest sense.”
Monson Solar will also provide a Worcester-based hospital with substantial annual energy cost savings through an agreement with Nexamp to purchase discounted energy credits generated by the project. The hospital is projected to save over $40,000 energy costs in the first year alone, and well over $1 million over the lifetime of the project.
The 2.6 MW array in Monson is one of over twenty Nexamp community solar projects that the company expects to name as operational by the end of the year. In 2018, the company expects to serve nearly 5,000 Massachusetts customers through their innovative Solarize My Bill, ultimately generating tens of millions in energy savings over the lifetime of the projects. The company recently announced the expansion of their program into New York state, and is eyeing further expansion into Maryland and several additional new markets next year.
