Going through several online discussions about the current state of “NBA 2K20” gameplay easily shows that many gaming fans are still disappointed at the quality of the title. It appears that this week, players have another thing to be disappointed at, and these are in-game, unskippable advertisements.
‘NBA 2K20’ gameplay: Players air frustrations over in-game ads
Posts from “NBA 2K20” who have encountered ads while their game is loading have gone viral online. Instead of the typical loading screen, a screenshot from Reddit user u/Boostmiester confirms that the latest iteration of basketball sim from 2K Games is putting up advertisements from major brands.
The source of the image emphasized the Converse ad being unskippable, but it is unclear whether or not the ad continues once the game completes loading. It can be recalled that ads also started appearing on 2K19 last summer after 2K Games brought down the base game’s price to just $3.
Considering the discounted price, some argued that the addition of ads could be justifiable. But that did not sit well with others who paid for the game’s full price early on. The absurd thing about the situation is that “NBA 2K20” had only been released barely two months ago, and the standard edition is still priced at $59.99.
The response from video game fans has been understandably unforgiving. Fans have yet to move on from the glitch-filled launch “NBA 2K20” had last Sept. 6, and developers have yet to fully address all issues bugging the players. So suddenly adding unskippable ads in the game might not be the best choice at the moment.
“NBA 2K20” developers have yet to address the issue and the brewing backlash. While the ads are reportedly unskippable, there is one workaround. When the ads popped up on 2K19, other players advised that deactivating the NBA 2KTV will get rid of the ads altogether. However, that may not be the best option now that the real-life league’s regular season has started.
‘NBA 2K20’ update: Devs issue 7 game patches in under 2 months
As mentioned, “NBA 2K20” did not have the ideal launch considering that it was welcomed with the #Fix2K20 trending on Twitter shortly after the game’s day 1. Another proof that the game was far from being polished when it was released is the fact that the developers have already released seven gameplay patches in less than two months since its launch.
It should also be noted that each patch contains very short change notes and being released almost every week. However, the general feedback on Patch 7 makes it seem like 2K Games still has so much to fix on “NBA 2K20.”
