Dwyane Wade and Greg Monroe are the remaining coveted free agents left as superstars have now signed with their respective teams. While the two are not projected to highly bolster the rosters of those eyeing them, they’re still important pieces that can bring depth to the bench, Bleacher Report said.
The previous season saw Dwyane Wade averaging 17.9 points, 5.9 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 1.4 steals with a 43.8 field goal percentage. Greg Monroe’s stat line was 10.2 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists with a 56 field goal percentage.
Greg Monroe is currently being eyed by the Toronto Raptors, which has acquired Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green in exchange for DeMar DeRozan, Jakob Poeltl, and a protected 2019 first-round pick. If the Raptors manage to land Monroe, then they could have them come off the bench to rest starter Jonas Valanciunas.
However, the Raptors are reportedly hesitating to add Greg Monroe to their roster as it would mean they would have to pay him the $5.3 million mid-level exception, a move that would cause issues in their cap space. Of course, the two sides can still reach a middle ground but news regarding this acquisition isn't out yet.
Meanwhile, Dwyane Wade hasn’t signed with the Miami Heat yet. But Heat president Pat Riley said they’re willing to give the 15-year veteran the time he needs to make the decision.
Perhaps one of the reasons that Dwyane Wade hasn’t signed with the Heat yet is the enticing contract offered by the Chinese team Zhejiang Golden Bulls. The Golden Bulls have extended a contract worth $25 million over three years to Wade that would see him play in China.
Both Greg Monroe's and Dwyane Wade’s tenures in the NBA have proven they can be an integral part of a team’s success. But what team these players will join remain uncertain.
