“NCIS” season 16 arrives just about four months since the emotional departure of Abby Sciuto (Pauley Perrette). The well-loved forensics expert was one of the few cast members who had been with the show since season 1. So saying that her exit came as a surprise is an understatement. With that, some fans could be wondering if there will be more characters leaving the show after this season.
The police procedural series returns this month with characters who have been on the show since season 1. Aside from Gibbs (Mark Harmon), Ducky (David McCallum), McGee (Sean Murray), Jimmy (Brian Dietzen), and Fornell (Joe Spano) are all returning in “NCIS” season 16.
And over the years, it seemed like most of the characters who left were some of the cast members that had been on the show for the longest period. With that, there are suggestions that if anyone is leaving after “NCIS” season 16, that character is likely one of the names mentioned above.
However, considering that surprise deaths have happened on the show before, anything is possible. The person who is in grave danger once “NCIS” season 16 premieres is Vance (Rocky Carroll). And recalling how Kate (Sasha Alexander) and Reeves (Duane Henry) left the show, Vance’s safety is not a hundred percent certain and the same goes for his stay in the series.
Other characters also left the show after finding a whole new purpose in life outside NCIS just like Tony (Michael Weatherly) and Abby. So if Vance comes back to Washington, D.C. alive and well in “NCIS” season 16, his capture might be a convincing call for him to retire and focus on being a single parent.
Ducky and Fornell have also previously gotten other opportunities outside NCIS and the FBI. Ducky started writing a book and accepted a work as a professor, thus lessening his appearance in the Navy Yard. Fornell, on the other hand, decided to leave the FBI for good. While their return in “NCIS” season 16 is confirmed, it is hard to tell if they will still be around once CBS decides to renew the show for a 17th season.
As for Bishop (Emily Wickersham) and Torres (Wilmer Valderrama), fans may have noticed a brewing romance between them in season 15. So it is safe to bet that they could still be around for more seasons; that is if the franchise continues beyond “NCIS” season 16. The highly rated series returns on Tuesday, Sept. 25, at 8 p.m. on CBS.
