It was quite expected for Gibbs (Mark Harmon) and his team to successfully save Director Vance (Rocky Carroll) in the “NCIS” season 16 opener. With that, they will soon be back to their usual murder-solving activities in episode 2.
The agents will be working on the first murder case of “NCIS” season 16 in episode 2, titled “Love Thy Neighbor.” The synopsis reads that Gibbs and his team will find a dead Navy lieutenant in a hot tub.
The investigation in “NCIS” season 16 episode 2 will focus on the victim’s neighbors, who are described as “peculiar.” Typically, titles of “NCIS” episodes have hidden meanings related to the outcome of every case. Pair that with the synopsis, it looks like Gibbs and his agents will be spending some time in a weird neighborhood to find the killer.
Another interesting incident in “NCIS” season 16 episode 2 involves Torres (Wilmer Valderrama) and Palmer (Brian Dietzen). Fans already have a clue as to how an upcoming night out concludes.
Valderrama previously shared an “NCIS” season 16 behind-the-scenes photo where a bruised Torres and Palmer are seen locked behind bars. In Valderrama’s caption, the actor hinted that Palmer is the one to be blamed.
This week, “NCIS” season 16 officially premiered and the opener focused on their mission to save Vance. The NCIS director was eventually rescued and his kidnapper was also captured alive.
Despite the very tense opening of "NCIS" season 16, there were also some light moments. Fans rooting for Bishop (Emily Wickersham) and Torres to be together likely noticed some subtle hints that they became closer within the one-month time jump from the season 15 finale to this week's premiere event.

In “NCIS” season 16 premiere, the terrorist who kidnapped Vance hacked into a Naval facility that he also intended to blow up while Bishop, Gibbs, and McGee were stuck inside. Luckily, Torres was in another location, where the tool needed to avert the explosion was situated. Gibbs called Torres to give a sitrep and instructed him on what to do. But during the call, Torres specifically and worriedly called on Bishop — twice — to check whether or not she was fine.
Co-showrunner Frank Cardea previously confirmed to TVLine that Bishop and Torres will fill the romantic aspect of “NCIS” season 16. But considering that it took Tony (Michael Weatherly) and Ziva (Cote de Pablo) until season 11 to act on their feelings, the current love team might also be in a long-time will-they-won’t-they bond. “NCIS” season 16 airs every Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
