After months of an NES Classic Edition drought, GameStop has finally started accepting pre-orders again for the throwback console. Luckily, buyers do not have to wait long before receiving their devices since shipments are scheduled for next week.
Earlier this week, GameStop reopened the NES Classic Edition product listing on its online store. No promotional discounts are in place, so video game fans will have to purchase the console at its regular price of $59.99. Every box will have the console itself, a standard HDMI cable, “one old-school, grey-colored NES Classic Controller,” and an AC adapter for its power source.
Nintendo fans can place orders now to secure a unit of the NES Classic Edition. Meanwhile, they will be billed for the item until shipment is being processed. GameStop promised to deliver the console on Friday, July 20. Like the usual case, GameStop ships items only to addresses across the United States.
The NES Classic Edition also comes with 30 pre-installed video games developed for the original NES from the mid-'80s to the late ‘90s from Nintendo and other companies. Some of the very familiar titles included in the purchase are “Castlevania,” “Donkey Kong,” “Galaga,” “Kirby's Adventure,” “Mario Bros.,” “Mega Man 2,” “Metroid,” “Pac-Man,” “Super Contra,” “Super Mario Bros.” (1-3), “The Legend of Zelda,” “Final Fantasy III,” and many more.
The NES Classic Edition has two ports dedicated for controllers. However, customers will have to purchase their second controller separately, priced at $9.99.
Nintendo launched the NES Classic Edition in November 2016. Since then, the throwback console has evidently become a hit for the Japanese video game company after selling over 2.3 million units within just five months.
In April 2017, Nintendo announced they were discontinuing the production of the NES Classic Edition. However, there were also reports at the time that it was done only to give way for the making of another throwback console, the SNES Classic Edition.

Then last May 14, the video game company announced on Twitter that both gaming systems are coming back in stores by late June. Nintendo also said that both the NES Classic Edition and the SNES Classic console are “expected to be available through the end of the year.”
