The World Food Championships (WFC) is the largest food sport competition in the United States. In 2016, there were more than 400 teams from 48 states and 15 countries competing at the championship event, which is held each November in Orange Beach, AL and attended by more than 25,000 people.
“We have great insight into the chef and food enthusiast community and saw the opportunity to connect them with products that could complement or enhance their skills,” commented WFC CEO Mike McCloud. “The WFC puts a spotlight on chefs who specialize in BBQ, steak, seafood, sandwiches and desserts, and we’ve merchandised The Champion’s Table around these categories and other key meal-time occasions.”
The Champion’s Table features almost 800 unique culinary products from more than 50 independent companies. It is built on MACMAC Marketplace’s proprietary marketplace platform, which enabled the two partners to conceive, merchandised and go to market in less than 90 days.
“This partnership will be beneficial for all of us – the WFC, MACMAC and the vendors selling on The Champion’s Table. We are presenting unique and interesting new products that are not widely available and are providing them with an additional distribution channel alongside some larger well- known brands,” said Elizabeth Nichols, MACMAC’s CEO, who added that the list of vendors selling on The Champion’s Table will expand continuously.
In addition to the marketplace’s core functionality, MACMAC also designed and operates a social media-driven recommendation section called “Food Champs.” Each food champ is a previous winner at the World Food Championships or an influential food personality who selects their favorite products from the site and shares their picks with social followers. New food champs are added to the site each week. According to McCloud, “It is a great way to bring in the voices of the expert chefs and food personalities who have been instrumental in the WFC’s success.”
