The Tesla Roadster was the first car that the popular electric car company ever built and it broke a lot of conventions. For one thing, it was the first all-electric sports car that was meant to be both fast and efficient. Its successful launch is what made Tesla the company it is today. Elon Musk just announced that a new generation of Roadsters is coming and these cars will be the fastest vehicles that the automaker has to offer.
According to the Tweet that Musk sent out, the fastest car that Tesla has right now is still the Model S P100, which recently set a record for being the fastest mass-market electric car in the world. Considering that it went from 0 to 60mph in just 2.2 seconds, it can be difficult to imagine the Roadster beating the company’s current speedster. Musk seems confident that it will, however, but he was careful to mention that it won’t be available for a few years.
Model 3 is just a smaller, more affordable version of Model S w less range & power & fewer features. Model S has more advanced technology.

“Yes. Model S will always be the fastest Tesla until next gen Roadster, which is a few years away,” the Tesla boss replied to another user.
Even though there are no exact dates to attach to this promise, there are already reports that it could be as soon as 2019, Business Insider reports. If so, it should provide Tesla with enough time to carve a significant chunk of the mass consumer market with its upcoming Model 3 before car enthusiasts start raving about the new Roadster.
Details about the price are just as scarce, though, the first Roadster cost drivers $98,000. That’s just for the base price. It also came with a host of issues such as an unreliable engine and a disastrously problematic chassis made by the company, Lotus. Even so, with a range of 245 miles and able to go from 6 to 60mph in 3.7 seconds, it was a popular choice for affluent environmentalists.
