Toyota Motor Corp. and Towa Real Estate Co. are coming up with a new complex at the foot of Mount Fuji that will center around the Fuji International Speedway, a motor racing track.
Called Fuji Motorsports Forest, the complex would house a hotel, museum, and racing team garages.
According to Toyota's Koji Sato, who oversees the automaker’s motorsports business, they are aiming to make motorsports much more attractive and sustainable by offering a variety of experiences at the complex.
Towa Real Estate will be primarily responsible for the development of the new complex, which will span approximately 250 hectares and include a 225-hectare racetrack.
The Fuji Speedway Hotel will be the first of the complex's amenities to open. The hotel will open this autumn with 120 guest rooms, each with a panoramic view of Mount Fuji and the adjacent circuit.
Around the same time, the Fuji Motorsports Museum, which will include about 40 racing cars, will open.
There is a section for professional racing team garages, as well as restaurants that serve cuisine produced using locally grown products, and spas.
Other attractions won't open until 2023 or later.
The firms hope that a million people will visit the complex each year.
They will also host a variety of events throughout the facility, including special tours of the garages, to persuade spectators to come even when there are no races scheduled at the speedway.
