Newell Brands has appointed Guillermo Beade chief operating officer, giving him responsibility for global sales, central marketing and supply chain as the company seeks closer coordination among those functions.

Newell said Beade will work on how the teams connect and develop the organization and tools that support them. His remit extends to the technology, processes and people behind the three functions.

Beade will report to Newell President and CEO Chris Peterson; he will also serve on the executive committee. Peterson said he expects the appointment to create value for shareholders.

Beade most recently led Consumer Brands North America at SC Johnson, where he had previously headed Lifestyle Brands. Earlier in his career, he held management roles at PepsiCo after starting at Unilever.

Newell’s brands include Rubbermaid, Sharpie, Coleman, Graco and Yankee Candle. Beade is scheduled to take up the COO role Oct. 26.
