“Fortnite Battle Royale” is currently the most popular video game in the world. A huge reason for why it has grown as big as it has is the constant stream of new content that developers release. For the next update, it seems one of the more eye-catching items will be a new assault rifle. This gun will apparently come equipped with a thermal scope, which should make finding enemies much easier.
As if “Fortnite” didn’t already have plenty of powerful weapons to choose from, it would seem that the 4.4 update will add another one to the game. Epic Games recently revealed that this new rifle will be a legendary variant of the scoped AR with thermal capabilities, Forbes reports.
Basically, this means that looking through the scope will reveal heat signatures. As such, it will make detecting moving targets much faster. It will also make taking them down from a distance much easier.
As the publication notes, this is a potential game-changer in a title like “Fortnite,” which is largely about running and hiding. It’s incredibly easy to get taken out by a sniper when out in the open, and once a player is eliminated, they are done for that session.
By providing players with a weapon that basically makes it harder to hide and avoid detection, Epic is rocking the landscape once again. This rifle might even pose a bigger risk than the Guided Missile weapon.
Of course, all of this is just speculation. As Newsweek points out, Epic might institute some adjustments to balance the rifle out compared to its more common variants. It could be more powerful but slower to fire. It could also have more recoil.
At this point, no one really knows all that much about the weapon. If it proves too powerful, the developers could always nerf it.
