With the Fall season approaching, gaming fans can expect some of the biggest announcements and launches to take place. As for Nintendo, the company is rumored to host its next “general” Nintendo Direct event on Friday, Aug. 28.
Nintendo Direct schedule rumors
The reported date came from industry insider and GamesBeat journalist Jeff Grubb, stating that Aug. 28 is the date he has been hearing about the next Nintendo Direct and that there is a “strong possibility” for it to happen.
While sources appear quite certain about something happening on Aug. 28, the type of Nintendo Direct and what its announcement lineup would look like remain unclear. There are speculations that the next live stream event would be a “general” Nintendo Direct that refers to the main type of the presentation.
What is a ‘general’ Nintendo Direct and what to expect on August 28?
There are different types of Nintendo Direct streams, and the main kind is usually called a “general Direct.” It runs from half to a full hour and typically contains the biggest announcements including first-party titles for Nintendo consoles. It is also the kind of event where hardware-related news is revealed.
Many are hoping that the rumored event later this week would fall under this category, and that is one of the possibilities. Grubb, however, reminded everyone that the video game giant hinted at having more Partner Showcase after its Nintendo Direct stream last July. “At the end of that show they said, ‘we’re going to have more partner showcases coming up soon’, so anything I hear, in the back of my mind there’s always that ringing as an echo,” the industry insider explained.
Another kind of Nintendo Direct Mini is called Partner Showcase. While it can also be filled with exciting news about upcoming games, as the name suggests, it does not focus on revealing first-party titles and other Nintendo plans. In a Twitter post, Grubb also pointed out that Aug. 28 is a Friday, and it would be an unusual day to choose for a general Nintendo Direct. He then added, “But do expect a Direct equivalent by the middle of September.” Whether or not any of these becomes a reality, fans might want to subscribe to Nintendo’s official YouTube channel.
