Nintendo has had a lot of weird ideas over the years but the Labo cardboard products have got to be at the top of that list. Customers are basically able to take these cardboards, assemble them into peripherals, and use them to play games on the Switch. In an effort to spark interest in the product, Nintendo is holding a Labo Creators Contest with a cardboard Switch as one of the prizes.
Now, it’s worth pointing out that this special edition of the Switch is not made of actual cardboard. It simply looks like it is due to the color and appearance. The contest will begin on July 19 and will last until Aug. 20, Tom’s Hardware reports.
Joining and then winning the contest is the only way to obtain this version of the Switch. It isn’t available through purchase like so many other colors and themes. Unfortunately, the contest is only open to U.S. and Canadian participants.
Of course, hardcore fans can always approach the winners and offer to take it off their hands for a generous sum. However, this would be a seriously questionable thing to do, to say the least.
On the other hand, some fans might not mind doing questionable things to get their hands on this special edition of the portable console. Devin Coldewey over at TechCrunch has already revealed his manic desire for this particular Switch version and he is not alone.
Another relevant development with regards to the Switch and Labo is the fact that they now come with Mario Kart integration. Basically, those who have “Mario Kart 8 Deluxe” on their Nintendo Switch can build a Labo peripheral to play it with.
It’s the first game to get such compatibility support with regards to the cardboard products. Nintendo is hinting that more games will come with Labo support in the future.
