The Nintendo Switch is without a doubt, the hottest gaming console in the market right now, only closely followed by the Nintendo SNES Classic. The Japanese company is not content with what the hybrid unit can offer now, however. Nintendo is also offering a GameCube controller for the Switch that surprised even the company, along with an upcoming arrangement involving Netflix.
In a fittingly Nintendo move, the company recently added GameCube controller support on its Switch console without any fanfare. Then again, this might have been because the company itself didn’t know that it was going to do this, Tech Times reports.
The firmware update that included the GameCube controller support came along with USB headset support and video recording. Apparently, the only peripheral support that Nintendo intended to put into the Switch was for third-party accessories. That the official controller could be used to on the Switch was entirely accidental and no one would have known about it if some gamers didn’t test it out.
Another interesting result of the controller support being revealed is the hope sparked in the hearts of gamers that perhaps a Super Smash Bros. was coming to the Switch. After all, the first one came out on the GameCube. Unfortunately, Nintendo admitting that the support was only a result of an accident means that no such game is coming.
To make up for this disheartening news, it would seem that a Netflix functionality is on the way to the Switch, Comicbook.com recently reported. This is something that Nintendo of America head Reggie Fil-Aime recently admitted. According to the big boss, the feature will be added to the console in the future.
This would make the Switch capable of streaming videos on-demand, which is something that every device is expected to offer these days. Adding Netflix to the Switch would only make it more popular among modern users.
