Nissan Invents Diesel Engine Killer, New Internal Combustion System

In a world that is fast transitioning into a more renewable energy-centric mentality, creating a new kind of combustion engine is something that the auto world will do less and less of. However, Nissan did exactly this and many are already saying that it could kill diesel systems.

As Gas2 reports, the new gasoline internal combustion engine that Nissan developed  is said to have levels of efficiency that could give diesel engines a run for their money. By being able to adjust its efficiency on demand, the new system called “VC-T” could supposedly respond to needs of power, speed and efficiency on the fly.

Nissan is asserting that the engine has the performance capacity of a turbo model but with the efficiency of a diesel unit. This makes the Japanese car company confident that the engine will eventually replace diesel engines in the future, as confirmed by senior Nissan engineer Kinichi Tanuma.

“The diesel engine is a hot topic globally. We believe this new engine of ours is an ultimate gasoline engine that could over time replace the (advanced) diesel engine of today,” Tanuma said.

Supposedly, the turbo 2.0-liter, four-cylinder “VC-T” boasts a 27 percent gain in efficiency when compared to the 3.5-liter V-6 engine without losing out in terms of power. The engine is expected to be installed in a new Infiniti car and unveiled during the Paris auto show, which will be held next month.

The engine is actually a result of the alliance between Renault and Nissan, Auto Express reports. This is why, after Infiniti, the new engine is also expected to find its way under the hood of other cars in the allied car maker companies. Among the touted advantages of the gas engine compared to diesel equivalents is the fact that it is lighter as well, leading to even more efficiency.
