Developers from the indie studio Hello Games sure did put out a lot of work in applying significant improvements for “No Man’s Sky” especially with the release of the NEXT update. However, a gameplay review recently pointed out some PC performance issues. With that, the reviewers hoped that the developers will opt for that “one last push” to make its PC port a much more enjoyable experience.
Hello Games released the “No Man’s Sky” NEXT update last July 24. It is practically the completion of the developers’ promise of infinite exploration and multiplayer gameplay. But Eurogamer’s Digital Foundry published its verdict of the “No Man’s Sky” NEXT update on PC about a week since the patch’s release and they find its overall performance “concerning.”
According to reviewer Alex Battaglia, the “No Man’s Sky” NEXT update achieved its goals of providing much-improved visuals of its gameplay and environment even on PC, thus, the developers deserve credits for it. However, Battaglia noted that the performance aspect of the PC version is hard to overlook.
For example, with the “No Man’s Sky” NEXT update playing on a rig with the combination of AMD Ryzen 7 1700X and Nvidia GTX 1070, Digital Foundry noted that the time it takes for the game to load is unacceptable. Commenting that the game is taking more time than necessary in “pre-caching shaders,” Battaglia revealed that it took them more than three minutes to leave the loading screen. Of course, this is an experience that no PC gamer wants to have after waiting a couple of years for the “No Man’s Sky” NEXT update.
Digital Foundry also reported on highly unstable v-sync results while playing the “No Man’s Sky” NEXT update on PC. According to the review, they experienced getting frame rate reports of up to 60fps but “on-screen motion is plagued with stutter.”
Hello Games is yet to specifically address the issues reported by Digital Foundry. However, on a good note, developers have been taking notes from the feedback they get from players since “No Man’s Sky” NEXT update went live. This enabled them to identify some issues leading to the new set of patches for the PC released last July 30.
