So, here’s a surprise. No Man’s Sky, the perennial pariah of the video game industry and the standard with which all other games are based when making promises they can’t keep recently made huge announcements. One is the surprising fact that it’s coming to the Xbox One and the other is with regards to an upcoming free update that is its biggest yet.
Not much is known about the new update that the studio, Hello Games is dubbing NEXT, except that it will be free and it will feature the most changes or additions to the game, The Verge reports. It will be the first major update to the title since the huge Atlas Rises that was released last year and that one added land vehicles and some extra hours of fun to the game.
“We called this update NEXT, because it’s an important next step on a longer journey for us and the community,” Sean Murray said about the update. “We’ve been working our socks off on this and it’s by far our biggest update so far. It will be free to existing players, and we’ll continue to support No Man’s Sky in this way for the foreseeable future.”
As Polygon notes, No Man’s Sky has been exclusive to the PlayStation 4 since launch in terms of the console platforms but this is about to change. The game will arrive on the Xbox One later this year along with the promised NEXT update.
Apparently, the port will come with 4K support for the Xbox One X and HDR color for the S and X. Murray also noted that these details would have been leaked in one way or another, which is why they opted to simply announce it. Perhaps due to the wisdom gained following their painful experience of player backlash, however, Hello Games is choosing to keep details vague.
