NDTV Profit’s October roundup put the number of technology jobs affected above 5,000, pooling company disclosures, media estimates and tracker entries into a figure that is not an official count of completed cuts.
Amazon confirmed October job reductions in its Stores and Devices and Services units but released no totals. Reuters reported that fewer than 1,000 white-collar employees were affected in Stores and put the Devices and Services figure at no more than 250, citing people familiar with the decisions.
On Oct. 14, Netflix co-CEOs Greg Peters and Ted Sarandos told employees in a memo that the company planned to cut about 6% of its workforce, or roughly 1,000 jobs. Reuters said product, technology, legal and human-resources teams would face most of the reductions and described the move as Netflix’s biggest round of cuts since 2022.
An Oct. 20 filing by eBay describes a plan affecting about 9% of its global workforce and estimates $130 million to $150 million in costs, mainly severance and post-employment benefits. The filing gives no headcount; Reuters estimated about 1,100 jobs. eBay said savings from the restructuring would support strategic and operating initiatives.
HubSpot’s board authorized a plan affecting about 7% of its staff, or nearly 660 people. The company estimated $65 million to $75 million in charges. CEO Yamini Rangan described a strategic shift involving AI but said AI-related efficiency gains did not drive the reductions. Her employee memo described severance, benefits and career-transition support for departing staff.
TomTom said on Oct. 15 that organizational changes would affect about 200 roles worldwide as it reorganized around three divisions. Its results release also cited AI opportunities in automated driving and location intelligence.
Roger Lee, founder of Layoffs.fyi, told Crunchbase News that AI was attributed to 33% of tracked tech layoff events in 2026, compared with 1% in 2024. The tracker includes events linked to AI by companies or the press, so the figures do not show how many jobs the technology replaced. Lee said the largest cases carrying an AI label did not establish that AI systems had assumed dismissed employees’ tasks.
Crunchbase’s U.S. tracker estimated at least 94,046 tech workers were laid off from January through August 2026, 16.8% more than in the same period a year earlier. eBay and HubSpot expect most of their role eliminations to be completed during the first quarter of 2027.
